As many of you know, one of my biggest priorities as a pitching coach is keeping arms healthy while helping players improve performance. Too many athletes chase velocity without understanding what their arm is actually telling them—and that’s where problems start.

That’s why I’m introducing a system we’ll be using called ArmCare.

ArmCare is a testing system that measures how your athlete’s arm is responding on a daily basis. It gives us an objective number that tells us:

  • If the arm is fresh and ready to throw

  • If it needs light work or recovery

  • If we should pull back to prevent injury

Instead of guessing—we’ll know.* This helps us target specific mechanic flaws and arm weakness areas that need a focus on improving.

Why This Matters

Every player is different.

Two kids can throw the same number of pitches, but:

  • One recovers great

  • One is at risk of overuse or injury

ArmCare helps us individualize each athlete’s workload.

Based on your athlete’s ArmCare score, they’ll fall into one of three categories:

  • Lower Readiness (Below 70)
→ Focus on recovery, mobility, and light throwing

  • Moderate Readiness (70–75)
→ Controlled throwing + mechanical work

  • High Readiness (75+)
→ Full throwing, long toss, and higher intent work

This allows us to train smarter.

What This Means for You

My goal is to give your athlete:

  • A clear plan every time they throw

  • Better understanding of their arm health

  • Confidence that they are developing the right way

This system also helps us avoid the common cycle of:

Throw hard → feel sore → ignore it → injury

Moving Forward

We will have players assess with the ArmCare system regularly and provide them the understanding as to what would be most beneficial for the next steps into strengthening the arm and increasing throwing velocity, while reducing the possibility of injury.
